We, INEX Slovakia, are NGO based in Slovakia established in 1993. Among our many other activities (volunteering, non-formal educatuin, propagation) we are organizing summer international volunteer camps, a.k.a. workcamps around Slovakia. An international volunteer camp is a unique opportunity to discover a new country, culture and people from a different perspective. During workcamp the volunteers help with community service projects for 1 - 2 weeks. These can be repairing historic buildings, working with seniors or people with disabilities, renovating historical monuments, nature conservation and many other types of work. The volunteers will meet people from all over the world.
The history of organizing international projects dates back to 1920, when the first volunteering camp in the French village of Esnes en Argonne was completed. The village was previously destroyed during the First World War.
As a camp leader in Slovakia you will have an opportunity to:
- organize the workcamp according to your ideas
- meet people from around the world
- improve your practical skills and soft skills: communication, time management, budget management, conflict resolution, intercultural skills, public speaking, evaluation, theory of games, group dynamic, motivation, team management
- gain more experience in the management and leadership
- improve your English
- gain new friends
- help where your help is needed
What does a day at workcamp looks like?
What are your tasks as a camp leader?
You are never only one leader on the workcamp. You will work together with a co-leader from Slovakia. We share your and their contact details, so you can get in touch and start your cooperation on following tasks:
- planning and following the schedule of the workcamp
- planning, coordination and proposing of free time activities together with all participants of workcamp (name games, icebreakers, energizers, trips, game nights, etc.)
- coordinate the group life: cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking
- in cooperation with our local partner coordination of the voluntary work
- active participation in the voluntary work together with participants
- supporting group dynamic
- administration and budget management
- evaluation of the workcamp during and in the end of the workcamp
- communication with the workcamp participants before, during and after the workcamp
- communication and cooperation with local partner which includes planning the schedule and plan of work before the beginning of the workcamp
- communication with coordinator and mentor from INEX Slovakia office
What to do if something happens?
On all our workcamps the participants are all of legal age (18+). The group should pay attention to each other, but you can not be held liable for any accidents/damages by the participants.
In case there will be any emergency situation or conflict/situation you will be not able to deal with, you should contact your coordinator/mentor from INEX Slovakia office and we will support and help you. We have emergency phone for these cases, your coordinator/mentor is there for you 24/7.
- communication level of English
- must be at least 18 years old
- have at least an experience with participating in the workcamp
- have to participate in the preparatory online meeting for camp leaders
- a driver’s license is helpfull, but not necessary
What can INEX Slovakia offer to you?
- mentor to support you during the preparation for the project, during the whole project and after the project during the necessary period for closing the project
- accommodation and food are provided during the project
- after you finish the project it is possible to receive a confirmation/reference from us, you need to ask for the confirmation
- covering your travel cotst if you are between 18 - 30 years old
- pocket money 6EUR/day if you are between 18-30 years old
As soon as possible so nobody else will "take" place in your favourite camp. There is only 1 free place for each camp for camp leader from abroad.

Who will be your coordinator/mentor?
For coordination of the workcamps in Slovakia and trainings of workcamp leaders is resposible our project's coordinator Monika. Monika's first international camp was in Slovakia in 2012. This camp with volunteers from Japan vs. volunteers from Slovakia motivated her to lead camps in Slovakia. She later started working at INEX as an EVS coordinator. She is currently in charge of incoming volunteers and training of camp leaders in Slovakia.Monika will be your coodinator/mentor from very beginning to the end of your journey as camp leader in Slovakia. You will have her contact details, so you can contact her anytime you need help or support. She is also your emergency contact during the workcamp.
How much time will preparation and follow-up take?
The leaders are starting with planning of the workcamp at least 2 months before the beginning of the workcamp. You should arrive to the camp site one day before the camp begins, so you are there before any of the participants, can make a first grocery shopping trip and prepare the accommodation.
How much time will it take after the workcamp?
After the workcamp you need to finish some paper work (final report, financial book, bills, photos, etc.). We have one day evaluation meeting of all camp leaders in the end of September where you can participate to share your experiance and evaluate workcamp season together with other camp leaders.
