Several definitions are trying to identify the meaning of "volunteering". In general we can say that the volunteering is a practise of people working for a benefit of other persons or a concrete reason without any salary for their time and servises. The volunteering is also a form of nonformal and informal education. Although you do not get any matherial reward you could acquire much more than you think. A smile on a child face, a good feeling from renovation of an old farm, a reconstruction of a castle or new friendships and life experiences could be an award for you. The resulsts of the voluntary work will be worth the effort and it has got a big meaning for the whole society.

The volunteers are not paid - not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.

The voluntary work is not action, is an process:

* A personal and to everybody open process in each moment aside from the age, background, nationality and abilities. It is one from the instruments to make voluntary decision, to discover new life horizonts and activities and to show an interest for the society events.

* An educational process with interconected personal and social interest. The volunteer is not an object for education but an actor of an asociative / or a political project. We mean the short-term projects of the voluntary workcamps and also the long-term voluntary projects - which are a space for an unique experience to live in mini society consisted by people from a different social, cultural and geographical background, who work on common project.

* A process of cultural openess and mutual grow. There are not the ones who are helping and the ones who are helped to. There are not the ones who know and the ones who are learning, but the individuals and colectives, partner organisations who are asking the questions together and are open for other approach of other people. The meaning of the international volunteering is in the mutuality.

* The volunteering is not a program, neither an intership, neither the form of an alternative of public works. It does not present the way how to make money and that not for volunteer and neither for the hosting organisations.The result of the participation of the volunteer on the project is in this way nonmatherial and matherial too. The benefit of the volunteer from the project is not in the financial and neither in matherial form.

* The voluntary work is carried in behalf of the project of the social interest. Aside from that the project is in progress at home or abroad, it is realized in the patronate of some group (organisation) which decides about the way of its realisation.

A huge numbers of young people from all around the world volunteer in different public utility projects. They not only help to their own comunity but they develop their own personality and abilities. Join them and live what we are writing here about. It is valuable to become volunteer. If you do not try it you could not know how it is.
